Saturday 24th January 2026 - Lounge - From 7:oo pm.
Last year we held our first Burns Night to celebrate the life of 'the bard' and all things north of the border, and the feedback was that people enjoyed it so much that we're going to do it again this year. So we'll be making the Hackworth Lounge a little corner of Scotland - we'll have the sounds of Scotland, haggis neeps and tatty pies, macaroni pies, poetry and a lot of laughter. Places are limited.

One more time! ELVIS has ENTERED THE BUILDING. The annual Elvis night between Boxing Day and New Year has been such a hit in the last couple of years that we're going to do it just one more time.
So shake-off your turkey-tummy and have some chill time before the madness of New Year with the hunk-a-hunk-a-burning-love that is Eddy Popescu. Simply the best Elvis in the North.

Saturday 31st January 2026 - Main Hall - From 12:00 noon.
Love finding a bargain at a car boot sale, but hate being out in the winter cold? Or have a garage load of junk you could really do with selling? Then the "Stutey Booty" is for you. It's just like a car boot sale, but it's indoors in our spacious Institute building. For just the small price of a table those unwanted gifts and things could become someone else's 'booty' at the Stutey Booty.

Love is in the air, and romance is not dead just yet. This is an night we don't usually make much of at the Stute, and lets face it, not everyone is loved up or paired up. But whatever the case we'll make this a night to be enjoyed by all. We'll have smooth silky singing from our very own Steph Austin, a quiz, prizes to be won, and more surprises besides.

Making a long awaited return to the Stute - all the greatest sounds of the 1960s from this sensational three piece covers band featuring Shildon's own local guitar legend Ritchie Boddy in the line up. The Fabs are just that, absolutely 'fab' and never fail to deliver.

Join us for a friendly guided and illustrated walk on our 193rd anniversary week through the historic heart of New Shildon — birthplace of the world’s first Railway Institute. Discover how a community of early railway workers and engineers built not only locomotives but a society for learning, friendship, and progress. Trace the story from the 1830s to today, ending with a tour and refreshments in the Institute’s Grade II listed home.

New to the Stute, "Guess" are a super talented four-piece live party and covers band from our region that play a perfect cocktail of popular songs spanning several decades. You'll want your dancing shoes on for this one.

We enjoyed last year's Spring Fair so much that it;s coming back this year. As well as the lovely array of makers and sellers we'll be holding our annual Spring Fair competitions for prizes - with classes for egg dying, egg painting, easter bonnets, baking and more. Get the whole family involved

The Moondogs are a modern, UK-based, 3-piece tribute band that performs music from the 1950s and 1960s, recreating the energy and sound of rock and roll and pop. They are known for their high-energy live shows and play songs by artists such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones.

We pride ourselves on bringing in some of the hottest bands in the region, and now that list includes Hollywood - an all live 5-piece female fronted covers band who play some excellent tunes from across six decades. There is quite literally something for everyone - so join us in the main hall and well, Hooray for Hollywood!
