Shildon Railway Institute to launch #TeamStute volunteer scheme as it is on the brink of turning the first page in a new chapter of the historic organisation. Committee announce that "good people will make good things happen".

The committee collaborated with Shildon Heritage Alliance CIC and others including Locomotion, Alan Ellwood and former workers to stage an exhibition to mark 40 years since the closure of BREL's Shildon Works in 1984.

A new book was launched on Saturday 10th February 2024 which chronicles our proud story throughout the first 190 years from being the world's first such institute founded for the benefit of railway employees through to the present.

At a ballot held between 4th June 2023 and 11th June 2023 members of Shildon Railway Institute agreed to support a proposal to reconstitute the Institute as a Community Benefit Society to place it on a stronger footing..

Shildon Railway Institute is to hold a special Remembrance event on Saturday 13th November at which they will mark 100 years of the Institute's own WWI Members War Memorial with special talks and a brass band concert.
