1940s Bomber Benefit

The 1940s Bomber Benefit (A night of 1940s nostalgia)

Sat 19 March 2022

Tickets £7 - online sales now closed, tickets still available from the bar

In 1944 a Stirling bomber aircraft crashed just above Shildon at the top of Spout Lane. There used to be a commemorative plaque on display but it was removed after the bench on which it was placed became unrepairable.

The Shildon History Recall Society have long dreamed of replacing it with something suitable so this event will raise funds towards that aim.

Featuring "our Geordie sweetheart," Wor Vera singing a programme of some of the best known 1940s songs and a wartime sing-along with the Shildon Institute Singers and period dancing this evening of entertainment, full of surprises, will take you right back to Shildon in the 1940s.

Please do feel free to wear something befitting the period if you like, but if you prefer not to then just sit back and immerse yourself in the sights sounds and smells of the 1940s.
