Who back in 1833 would have imagined that we'd still be here in 2023 celebrating 190 at the heart of the community of Shildon.
We thought it would be great to kick off the ten year countdown to our 'bicentenary' (fingers crossed) with a special celebratory party - so we invited some of our favourite artists from recent years to come and help us celebrate this milestone and bring you a great evening of celebration and song.
Our headline act - The Shamrocks - always get the room singing, clapping and stomping along with their Irish folk songs and gentle good humour - they'll bring the night to a rousing end.
Shildon local hero Richie Boddy is the super-talented guitarist and singer from the highly acclaimed sixties band The Fabs, but we wanted to bring you something you may not have seen before which is just how talented he is as a performer in his own right.
The lovely Steph Austin is another of our local heroes, and very much a part of the team and Railway Institute family. Well loved by everyone, and with an amazing voice, her recently launched singing career has really taken flight.
County Durham's wonderful Sam Slatcher spends his days among the communities of the region exploring what makes them unique and helping them co-create songs that represent themselves - and in doing so he has amassed a repertoire that includes several about our own town, some of which were recorded here at the Institute.
Join us for this wonderful heartwarming celebration of our place in the world of long ago, today and the future.
